Privacy Policy

HalalFinds.ca ("HalalFinds", "we", "us") is a halal discovery service operated in Ontario, Canada. We are responsible for the personal information we collect through this website. You can reach our privacy contact at HalalFinds.ca@gmail.com.

We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its ten fair information principles: accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limiting collection, limiting use, disclosure and retention, accuracy, safeguards, openness, individual access, and challenging compliance. When we send commercial electronic messages, we follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We send only service messages, such as password resets, unless you have agreed to receive more.

• Account information: your email address, a display name and your password (stored in protected, hashed form; we cannot read it). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
• Content you provide: reviews, ratings, listing submissions, reports of incorrect information, and any photos or halal certificates you upload. Your display name and your reviews are public.
• Location: only when you choose "Use my current location" or enter a place. We use it to show nearby places. It is stored in your own browser so you do not have to repeat it. We send it to our servers and to Google Maps services (for example to turn coordinates into a place name or to suggest addresses) to make the feature work. We do not save your location to your account or build a history of where you have been.
• Technical information: IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited, collected by our hosting and security providers to run and protect the site. We use browser storage, not advertising cookies, to keep you signed in and remember your preferences.
• Business information: names, addresses, phone numbers and websites of halal businesses, which is business contact information and is shown publicly.

To create and secure your account; to show places near you; to publish and moderate reviews and submissions; to verify halal information and keep it accurate; to prevent abuse and fraud; to send service messages; to improve the site; and to meet legal obligations. We collect only what we need for these purposes.

By creating an account, submitting content or sharing your location, you consent to the uses described here. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account, removing your content, turning off location permission in your browser, or emailing us at HalalFinds.ca@gmail.com. Withdrawing consent may limit some features.

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the site, such as cloud hosting, database and authentication providers and Google (sign-in, Maps, Places and Geocoding), and only as needed for them to provide those services. We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect the safety and rights of our users and the site.

Our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country can be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under that country's laws.

We keep account information while your account is active. If you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal information, except where we must keep records for legal reasons or to protect the integrity of our verification and moderation history.

We use encryption in transit, access controls, role-based staff access and audit logs. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required.

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email HalalFinds.ca@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (www.priv.gc.ca, 1-800-282-1376).

HalalFinds is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you on the site.
